8 Topic: "Dedication to Feeling Good"
I
had an interesting thing happen to me last week.
A couple of nights a
week I'm a computer instructor at our local technical college. Most of the
students seem to enjoy my teaching style and will leave positive comments on
their evaluation forms. I've gotten down-right used to it.
This past
week, however, I had a student who was so displeased, she waited for several
minutes behind someone who was thanking me, so she could tell me how much she
hated my teaching and my class.
With anger in her eyes, she got very
close to me and started off with "This class was a complete waste of my time."
She went on for quite a while, indicating what a bad class it had been. As the
class meets once a week for four weeks, I was surprised this was the first I was
hearing any of this.
What was more interesting to me, however, was the
energy I felt (and almost saw) coming off of her. There was no real reason for
her to be so angry with me. After all, she knew I had stood by her side and
tried to help her every step of the way. Later on, I realized that she must have
been angry with herself, or simply sad that she was unable to grasp the
material.
While in the moment, however, I had to make a decision, and
make it quickly. I could either let her negative energy engulf me, or I could
choose to focus even more intently upon the strength of the loving energy within
me. I chose the second option.
I told her how sorry I was to hear that
she hadn't enjoyed the class. Then I quickly took a deep breath and began to
extend loving energy, to protect myself and to also engulf her in love. She
could choose to accept the loving energy or not, just as she could choose to
feel better or not. I hope she did choose to feel better, as I don't like seeing
people so unhappy.
Within that moment, I knew one thing for sure. I knew
I wanted to stay feeling good. I was so dedicated to that goal, that I would
have done any act of love to keep that positive energy flowing.
How
dedicated are you to feeling good?

8 Exercise: "Dedication to Feeling Good"
What
if... how we feel right now is only a miniscule fraction of how good we could
naturally feel, on a daily basis? We might assume that we're at about a
7, on a scale from 1 to 10. That could be why we're afraid to actually feel
GREAT every day. We somehow think that there is some kind of "Feeling Good Glass
Ceiling", and that there is a limited supply of the energy of feeling good.
But what if we took a moment to imagine that we are feeling only a
whisper of a percent of this "limited" energy of feeling good. Would that give
us the opening we need to feel the best we've ever felt? Then, tomorrow, we
could do it again, and feel even better and better and better. We can
bring our energy higher and lighter and more joyful every MOMENT of every day,
and certainly within each entire day. Our only exercise this time is to
feel good, as often as possible. If something comes up which threatens to pull
you away from feeling good, you may wish to do some of the following
things:
- Take slow, deep breaths and allow yourself to recharge from within.
- Allow yourself to feel at least 1% better, every hour today
- Imagine that there is a limitless supply of feeling good energy, and that
every time you take another 1% of energy for yourself, another 100% is created,
into infinity.
- When you're feeling stronger, think of some recent events that have caused
you to feel badly. Re-connect with that feeling for a moment, and then bring
yourself to a feeling of even better, and better and better. You may find that
you've healed any lingering energy around that piece of your past.
Above all, choose to feel good today. Or, choose to feel better
than you've ever allowed yourself to feel before. Just that choice will brighten
everything in your life experience, and make positive things focus upon you.
They're on their way to you right now!
